Practicing rescue
Last week, there was a practice exercise in a city that's already had more than its share of practice. A dozen and a half young men and women lay on the hot asphalt of Jerusalem's Teddy Stadium parking lot. In real life, these actors are sixth-year medical students, soon to be the next generation of Israeli doctors. They've just finished a special course in terror medicine, an innovation added to the Israeli curriculum.

Zarqawi finds tables turned
A group of armed masked men yesterday threatened to kill Jordanian militant Abu Musab al Zarqawi, saying that he was murdering innocent Iraqis and defiling Islam
The other refugees
The story of the Arab refugees has occasioned much gnashing of teeth and beating of breasts in the court of international opinion, while the same sentiment has not been granted to their more numerous Jewish counterparts. Contrary to popular opinion, Jewish existence was never better in essence among the sons of Ishmael than amid the Christians of Europe.

Hezbollah profiting from African diamonds
Lebanon's Hezbollah guerrilla movement is siphoning profits from West Africa's diamond trade, in part by threatening Lebanese diamond merchants, U.S. diplomats charge. The allegations, supported by independent analysts, describe more pervasive, organized and coercive Hezbollah profiteering from West Africa's diamond trade than most U.S. officials have previously acknowledged.
Deadly connections
Many Americans assumed that when President Bush included North Korea in his famous Axis of Evil speech, that he was simply defusing a potential America versus the Islamic world confrontation. He just tossed in the North Koreans, some suggested, so that we would not polarize the Muslim world more than it already is. But to believe that is to ignore one of the most dangerous connections out there today: the North Korean-Syrian connection.

Book seeks to end Jewish support for Israel
This ought to be a provoking, instructive, uncomfortable book. It is so only by inadvertence. Cramer describes himself as a "ham on rye" American Jew, grown up on reflexive support for Israel and disillusioned by closer acquaintance. What he has written now is an epitaph. Everything that once made Israelis attractive has been squandered so they can hold on to the territories and be "the brutal kings of all they survey." So why support Israel? Cramer's message is, don't.

Pervez Musharraf: A Plea for enlightened moderation
The world has become an extremely dangerous place. The devastating power of plastic explosives, as well as a proliferation of suicide bombers, has created a lethal force that is all but impossible to counter. The unfortunate reality is that both the perpetrators of these crimes and most of the people who suffer from them are Muslims. This has caused many non-Muslims to believe wrongly that Islam is a religion of intolerance, militancy and terrorism.

Is West Nile virus Saddam's revenge?
While some American intelligence sources are still suspicious about claims that Saddam Hussein had an active chemical and biological weapons program, others believe he unleashed that program on the U.S. in the form of West Nile virus. U.S. strain of West Nile virus is deadlier to humans and birds than anywhere else on the planet – with the exception of Israel.

Al Qaeda terror ring draws closer to Israel
The partial reports filtering out of Damascus indicate that the large-scale terrorist attack carried out Tuesday night, April 27, in the al Maza diplomatic quarter of the Syrian capital - a simultaneous car bomb, machine gun, grenade, rocket assault on several targets that set UN offices on fire and singled out the Canadian embassy – has brought the encroaching global terror warfront dangerously close to Israel.

The mythical moderate Muslim
I don't think World War II could be won if the Allies, instead of eradicating Nazism, attempted to replace Nazi extremists with moderate Nazis. Actually, nobody was looking for moderate Nazis during World War II. But those were simpler, purer times. Today, the mythical moderate Muslim remains the focal point of the US foreign policy in the Middle East.

Exploitation an explosive
On Monday, a stranger gave the 11-year-old porter an unusually heavy payload with instructions to deliver it to a woman on the other side of the Hawara checkpoint, the southern gateway to Nablus. But minutes later, soldiers on alert for smuggled weapons arrested the boy and blew up the package, leaving behind a small crater of bolt and metal shrapnel.

Anarchy rules in the Palestinian hub of Nablus
Gangs rule the streets of the West Bank's largest city, shooting rivals, strong-arming merchants and carrying out beatings and kidnappings. Residents have no faith in the toothless police force, which shows little stomach for stopping the disorder. The courts are a joke.
